Do Bacteria Still Matter? - Bacterial-Viral Interactions in the COVID-19 Era

Date:                  Monday 19th June 2023

About the event:

Pandemic pathogens including influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 make us focus on the importance of pathogenic viruses in respiratory infections. The question remains, particularly in highly vaccinated populations, what role bacteria still play in the pathogenesis of acute respiratory infections. This Satellite Event brings together national experts to explore viral-bacterial infections in the respiratory tract and implications for treatment and prevention policies.

This event is convened by an independent scientific faculty of leading experts in respiratory infections
– Professor Chris Blyth (Chairperson), Doctor Janessa Pickering and Professor Mark Nicol.

UPDATED EVENT:

Event:                 The evolving epidemiology of pneumococcal disease and an
update on the prevention of pneumococcal disease in Australia.

Date:                  Tuesday, 20th June 2023

About the event:

Pneumococcal vaccines play a significant role in reducing the burden of pneumococcal disease, yet challenges persist. Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes causing invasive pneumococcal disease, in particular serotype 3 and non-vaccine serotypes remain an issue. What has lead to the current epidemiology of pneumococcal disease and how have serotypes of concerns changed in Australia?

Presented by Professor Paul Van Buynder, join us to learn about the evolving epidemiology of invasive pneumococcal disease and about the new vaccines for the prevention of pneumococcal disease in Australia.

Please note: This event is only for Healthcare Professionals.
